America was built by immigrants from all over the world. This includes those forced into slavery and brought against their will. It includes the Native Americans who were first to arrive. Oppression, exploitation, and brutality have been part of this history, and they continue. Let’s be clear, America was not built by corporations or the wealthy. The sweat and tears of our ancestors is what built America.
Trump and his billionaire corporate buddies (the ruling class), are using the same old tactics they have always used against us working people. They control by dividing us and labeling some of us “criminals.” The Trump administration is blaming immigrants and using his attack on “sanctuary cities” as a starting point to confuse and divide the American working class, beginning in Texas.
Texas passed SB 4, which gives the state government the right to halt funding to cities that don’t follow the “show-me-your-papers” law. Nationally, Trump has “rescinded” DACA, and millions of us run the risk of being separated from our families and deported. Legislators have six months to provide other options. We need comprehensive immigration reform to benefit all eleven million residents and not just the 800,000 Dreamers.
It is our right to remain with our families!
The ruling class of this country is establishing more laws that convert us into criminals for trying to survive. In fact, the real problem is that this country is going through a fundamental economic transformation, and the ruling class is laying the groundwork for their own future at the expense of all of us.
More than ever before, economic conditions are deteriorating, and we are witnessing more force and “the law of the land” being used against all of us. In the midst of the abundance that modern technology provides, there is no reason for anyone to go without the basic necessities of life. All we need or want is a decent-paying job, quality education, adequate health care, and a roof over our heads. That’s the reality.
Corporations fear our unity. Let us reclaim our morality and take back our country from the corporations. Let’s unite as one working class.
