Pilar Rodríguez Aranda is a poet of words and video, translator and interpreter, transborder adventurer.
Her work has been published in various magazines in North America, and she has received grants from the Mexican National Film Institute (IMCINE), the National Foundation for Arts and Culture (FONCA), the Morelos Cultural Institute, and the City of Austin Arts Commission.
She has helped organize 100 Mil Poetas por el Cambio in Mexico City, where she lives, and throughout Mexico.
“I feel that 100 Thousand Poets for Change is about poetry as a common language,” she says, “a signal, a mirror, and maybe an instruction manual towards change.
“I believe we are what we speak, just as we are what we eat, or what we think.
“I believe we can imagine, express, write, and create a better version of ourselves and the world.”

Solitaire
Play is a collective verb
it is a lesson for Narcissus
the boy that only knew
how to play by himself
To play solitaire is to play at sadness
embrace silence
to kill the only thing we have left
(time)
Solitary is the world that surrounds me
Its disease is called hate
Its disease has no base
It is the I that superimposes on the we
that prefixes the you
and that stands before all of them
The I that plays alone doesn’t recognize the shift:
solidarity
shared passion
the world
