Why are the oligarchs attacking women? And what do immigrant women — singled out as “the other” — have to fear?
As computers and robots take over job job after job, they are throwing millions of us into permanent unemployment. But people are beginning the fight for a new way of life — a life of cooperation and sufficiency, without the anxiety and desperation almost everyone faces today.
In this, we confront an ever richer group of oligarchs who control global wealth. Yet these corporate chieftains are also feeling desperate―desperate to protect their wealth against our vast majority.
As the conflict heightens, the rich are being forced to turn to the only possible tactic for defeating or delaying needed change: fascism, the collaboration of the corporations and the government against the vast majority.
When fascism comes to power, it inevitably attacks women. To conceal the massive unemployment in 1930‘s Germany, for instance, the Nazis passed a law permitting only one wage worker per family. Wives and immediately lost their jobs — resulting in even worse poverty for their families.
The Nazis also made a horrible attack on women based on ‘“race” as well as gender.
They impelled “Aryan” (white-skinned, blond, “German-looking”) women to engage in unlimited breeding. Camps were even set up where teenage girls were mixed with teenage boys, and the pregnancy of those “desirable” girls often resulted.
The fascists combined this with brutally forced sterilization of “non-Aryan” women, who they labelled as “undesirable” and turned into the feared “other.” The result of the fascist policies was either forced breeding or forced non-breeding, but neither group had freedom.
In the U.S., the oligarchy is rapidly moving towards open fascism directed at everyone who is not part of “the 1%” — the wealthy. The attack on the rights of women — immigrant women particularly — is a major component of their attack.
