Doctors for Camp Closure
The Doctors for Camp Closure held their last day of protest at the San Ysidro Port of Entry. After the press conference, they remembered the migrant children and adults who have died in Border Patrol and ICE custody and wrote their names with chalk on the walkway leading to the southbound pedestrian crossing area. Their request to the government was simple, let them provide live-saving preventative medicine to detained migrants. Unfortunately, Border Patrol and CBP officials refused to allow them entry into their facilities. The Doctors for Camp Closure held their last day of protest at the San Ysidro Port of Entry. On Tuesday December 10 th at the San Diego/Mexico border: They arrested folks from #Doctors4CampClosure and supporters from #FamiliesBelong Together and #NeverAgain just because for wanting [sic] #NoMoreFluDeaths [and putting] their bodies on the line for that goal.

Two men in doctor’s coats and scrubs and four other demonstrators were arrested while protesting the government’s refusal to administer themselves through the detention centers or even to allow volunteer medical personnel to give vaccinations to migrants held in detention.

The protests were sparked by four deaths of minors in the past year, and the overcrowding that exists in the detention centers and is conducive to rapid spread of the flu.

The country is in the midst of a flu epidemic as the protests go on.

Belittling the protestors, the Department of homeland Security’s press secretary tweeted this week: “Of course Border Patrol isn’t going to let a random group of radical political activists show up and start injecting people with drugs,”

The flu doesn’t respect immigration status. Cruelty doesn’t either.
