Antoine Dangerfield, 30, of Indianapolis, a welder for a construction contractor building a UPS hub, witnessed some old-school labor militancy on August 6.
More than a hundred Latino workers, mainly millwrights, welders and conveyor installers working for a different contractor but in the same hub were ordered home after disobeying the orders of a white boss Dangerfield described as racist.
Within minutes, the entire group of workers walked out.
Dangerfield caught their wildcat strike on camera at the moment they walked out.
“They are not bullshitting!” he said of his co-workers. Referring to the boss, he said, “They thought they was gonna play with these amigos, and they [the Latino workers] said, ‘Aw yeah, we rise together, homie.’ And they leaving! And they not bullshitting!”
Since he posted the video, the footage has been viewed 2 million times on Facebook and nearly 800,000 times on YouTube and on sites like WorldStarHipHop (300,000 views). As he explained later, it also led to his firing. Dangerfield said he thought it was worth it, though.
