Mexico’s masses stand up!

At the beginning of his presidential term, Enrique Peña Nieto, the president of Mexico, presented an initiative called Reforma Energética (Energy Reform), which promised to be more competitive and reduce the prices of the product.

On the contrary, in December 2016, the 20% increase in the price of gasoline (magna, premium and diesel) was announced for January 1. By the beginning of February, there were to be two more increases and after February 18 would follow the liberation of prices with daily adjustments.

As a result, demonstrations throughout the whole country began on January 1.

Automatically, the services of bus lines increased their prices as well as the price of LP Gas and electric consumption.

How is it possible that a country with high oil production does not have enough gasoline refineries for consumption? Mexico today buys six out of every 10 liters it consumes from abroad. It is the result of an “energy” policy that led us to depend in a fundamental way on imports of gasoline rather than on domestic refinery petroleum.

It is unacceptable that this is happening in Mexico where oil is the main economic resource of the government followed by remittances sent by Mexicans in the United States.

The energy reform covers the dishonest sale of Mexican oil to private lenders for the benefit of corrupt politicians. … Maybe this is the blow that was needed to raise our voices and stand up in defense of our interests.
