You are being targeted by the oligarchy, not the American people themselves
If no one else is doing so, let us welcome you to the United States. And let us try to explain the uproar that has erupted — and what a better world could be.
Like yourselves, the American people are being hammered down by the oligarchy — and it is the most skillful in the world, having stood behind the oligarchies of Mexico and Central America for almost a century.
To win the support of the American people, the U.S. oligarchy let them imagine it was the people themselves who controlled the government, and it backed that up by paying high wages, using wealth extracted from your countries.
They told the Americans that they were better than any other people in the world. And Americans believed it.
In recent years, all that has changed. The oligarchies of the world have joined hands and created a global market — a global market for labor as well as for goods and capital. And a revolution in technology is driving human beings off the land and out of the factories, where they are being replaced by computers and robots.
In the U.S., the oligarchy no longer has the ability or the self interest to put everybody to work — or pay them high wages. Instead, it is dispossessing the American people of everything they have: jobs, houses, savings, pensions.
This is a huge shock that the American people are only beginning to realize. They are unbelieving and frightened. Their anger is deep, even if it is often hidden. This, not you, is the source of their attack on immigrants.
Because the oligarchy is their proper target, it must divide and conquer the American people against themselves. Because the allies of the American people are the peoples of Latin America, the oligarchs must divide and conquer us all.
Recently, a significant majority of the American people have been moving decisively to accept immigrants and toward a hemispheric unity. This is new, and it threatens the oligarchy.
That is why the oligarchy’s news media have been trying to create a panic about the recent immigrants, women and children who are escaping terrible conditions in their home countries. Their target is the American people, not the women and children.
The American people themselves are very divided about this right now. Many want the women and children returned to their countries; many want them welcomed here. It is a good time for North Americans to learn an important lesson about unity.
If they do, what would a better world for all the Americas look like? Quite simply, today there is more than enough for us all — food, clothing, housing, health care. And the new technology enables us to produce more and more.
But for the same reason, the oligarchy’s capitalist system can’t employ us all and pay us well any more, and it leaves us hungry and at each other’s throats. It stands in the way of our creating an abundant, share-and-share-alike society, where borders are meaningless and people do not have to leave their ancestral homes to seek survival.
