Interview with an Immigration Activist

Interview with Adriana F., a leader with MOP (Merced Organizing Project). She has been living in the U.S. for 20 years and after much sacrifice, she and her husband reached the goal of buying their own home, only to lose it during the foreclosure crisis as

did thousands of other immigrants. She has decided to participate in the Pilgrimage for a Path to Citizenship. On August 11 the Pilgrimage left Sacramento.

Tribuno del Pueblo:  Tell us why this Pilgrimage is being organized for a Path to Citizenship.

Adriana F:  It is being organized to pressure, to raise our voices, and to let our needs be known. I no longer want to live in the shadows and not have any rights.

TP:  Why did you decide to participate in the Pilgrimage from Sacramento on August 11?

AF:  I want to contribute with my grain of sand and to represent MOP. I don’t want to be a person that accepts injustices, and I especially want to be an example to my son, that we must show our value as human beings. I feel proud to be able to make a difference and to do it for my son and family.

TP:  What will you tell Congressman McCarthy of Bakersfield?

AF:  We want him to see us as human beings, to touch his heart, to explain that we came here with a hope.  Searching for a better life.

TP:  What message would you like to give to documented or undocumented people?

AF:  We need to unite to work together; being people of faith we should provide support to each other. We are depending on people that have documents to make a difference.  Support and participate in some way.
