Detroit: To the streets!

To our immigrant community here in Detroit, I think it’s important to get out into the streets to fight for better living conditions for all, to stop the deportations and raids that separate our families. As immigrants, regardless of legal status, we have the right to be treated like human beings, with all of our rights because we work hard to contribute to this society. It’s time to be listened to, to be seen, to leave the shadows where we live. Because living in fear is not living. Here in Detroit we are going through difficult times—jobs are scarce. More and more people are living on the streets. The push is to close public schools and to privatize education. But with all these difficulties, there are many people who want to participate and fight for a more just community for all.
